Scuromanto in Campiglio: living matter for high-altitude architecture

Scuromanto

In Madonna di Campiglio, a new intervention within a 1960s building reinterprets mountain architecture through an essential, contemporary language.

Designed by architect Federico Dallavalle in collaboration with Corazzolla Arredamenti, within a timber structure built by Alpenos, the project reflects a careful process of selecting and composing materials, where natural wood is used both structurally and atmospherically.

Fiemme Tremila’s healthy floors, in particular, provide the foundation that sets the rhythm for the entire space. The choice of Scuromanto from the Luci di Fiemme collection—also used as a ceiling cladding, on the staircase and in selected furnishings—creates a living, vibrant surface with deep chromatic intensity, able to absorb and reflect light with unusual richness and nuance. The dark brown, nearly black tone and the dense grain pattern of this thermo-treated ash form an elegant counterpoint to the volumes of white lacquered furniture and the natural oak wall claddings. The Triplostrato® solid-wood construction and the Fiemme Tremila BioPlus® treatment ensure stability, wellbeing and long-lasting performance for a floor designed to be touched, breathed in and truly lived. Scuromanto is not just a finish: it is a perceptual threshold of intimate quiet within the domestic landscape.

At the heart of the home lies the living area: a bright open space dominated by a freestanding fireplace with a conical body and an open hearth. The focal and functional centerpiece is the sculptural staircase connecting the two levels, highlighting the contrast between materials: the ash steps in Scuromanto and the oak wall cladding, which on one side opens into an orthogonal grid, shaping an integrated storage system.

The sleeping area plays with privacy and transparency: the entrance is screened by smoked glass that suggests rather than reveals the interior. The bed stands free at the center of the room, symmetrical to the architecture; behind it, a discreet passage leads to a walk-in wardrobe lined with oak panels. Scuromanto confidently extends into the bathrooms as well—on the floors and in the furnishings—where it sparks a refined contrast with matte olive green and white walls.

Every element of this high-altitude home was custom-made, crafted with artisanal care in keeping with Italian know-how that unites technique, manual skill and design sensitivity. Here, surfaces are never mere background, but a presence that defines the home’s identity as an everyday sensory experience.
